Microsoft is making significant investments in spatial intelligence

Microsoft is making significant investments in spatial intelligence, particularly through its HoloLens technology and integration with AI and cloud platforms.

Key aspects of Microsoft’s spatial intelligence strategy include:

HoloLens 3 Enterprise Suite: Microsoft launched the HoloLens 3 Enterprise Suite on January 15, 2026, which features edge AI spatial anchors. This technology is being used in applications such as BMW’s ghost collaborations, indicating its role in factory revolutions.

Integration with Hexagon: Microsoft and Hexagon are collaborating to scale physical AI using multimodal vision-language-action models. This involves combining Hexagon’s sensor fusion and spatial intelligence with Microsoft’s cloud platforms, including Azure services for real-time intelligence and IoT operations tools.

AI-Driven Spatial Understanding: Microsoft’s HoloLens is a key player in wearable spatial devices, improving user comfort and interaction fidelity.  Advanced AI and machine learning algorithms enable real-time object recognition, environmental mapping, and contextual awareness, enhancing the accuracy of AR/VR applications.

Spatial Computing Market: Microsoft is a dominant player in the spatial computing market, holding a 16% share, alongside companies like Apple, Meta, Google, and NVIDIA.  The company’s Mesh capabilities were integrated into Teams and Azure services in 2025, facilitating mixed reality collaboration through cross-device shared holographic environments for enterprise users.
