Hyundai Mobis’ push into Slovakia is a bid to become an electrification supplier of choice for Europe’s major automakers.
Hyundai Mobis has opened its first European power electric (PE) system plant in Nováky, Slovakia, with annual capacity of 280,000 units and an investment of approximately KRW 250bn (US$185m). Third in a series of European electrification bases, it follows battery system assembly (BSA) plants the supplier operates in the Czech Republic and Spain.
A PE system combines an electric motor, inverter, and reduction gear in a single powertrain unit. The plant occupies a 106,000 square metre site, with 8,500 square metres of production floor space housing stator and inverter lines.
Slovakia hosts major automaker operations including Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo, giving the facility proximity to prospective customers. Hyundai Mobis aims to raise non-affiliate revenue to 40% by 2033, with European supply capability central to that goal.
In a statement, Lee Gyu Suk, President and Chief Executive of Hyundai Mobis, said: “To realise Hyundai Mobis’ future vision, we will continue to invest and devote our efforts to establishing the Nováky PE system plant as a key electrification hub in Europe. Looking ahead, strategic models from global automakers equipped with Hyundai Mobis PE systems will lead the European electrification market.”
Beyond Europe, Hyundai Mobis runs electrification plants in South Korea, the United States, and Indonesia. The company has built in-house capability across both BSA and PE production.
